Causes of female infertility

  1. Ovarian Dysfunction: irregular menstrual cycle or ovulation difficulties due to hormone imbalance

  2. Damaged or occlusion of fallopian tubes

  3. Endometriosis

  4. Cervical mucus hostility

  5. Excessive prolactin

Diagnosis
A. Ovulation Test

  1. Measuring of Basal Body Temperature: After ovulation, there is usually a rise of 0.5oC in body temperature and this can be measured. By monitoring the changes in body temperature, the ovulation period can be determined.

  2. Cervical mucus monitoring test: When ovulation occurs, cervical mucus increases in volume and changes in texture.

  3. Progesterone Test: The level of progesterone increases after ovulation. Progesterone Test is a simple blood test for measuring the amount of the progesterone hormone in blood that indicates whether or not normal ovulation has taken place.

  4. Endometrial Biopsy: A procedure in which a tissue sample is obtained from the endometrium (the inside lining of the uterus) for examination for any abnormalities and dating.

  5. Ultrasound

B. Examination of oviduct

  1. Endoscope: Hysteroscopy to observe the uterus.

  2. Laparoscopy: For direct observation of the condition of the ovary and oviduct.

 


Reasons of not ovulating
 

High follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)

Polycystic Ovarian Disease

A loss of reproductive function of the ovary or early menopaus

High prolactin (PRL)

High luteinizing hormone (LH)

Extreme variations in body weight (too light or too heavy)

Stress
