In-vitro Maturation (IVM)
IVM is a relatively new technology which was firstly introduced for patients with polycystic ovaries (PCO) through the avoidance of ovarian stimulation. It thus reduces the risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Technically, IVM oocyte has to be cultured in a specific refined IVM culture media until it matures. After ICSI, , the resulting embryo can be successfully implanted. The recent ART research data showed that IVM embryo implantation rate is much lower than that of IVF embryo because of the cytoplasmic immaturity of IVM embryo which affects its fertilization process and further possible development. Presently, IVM technology has not been routinely used for infertility treatment.
