The eggs are collected by ultrasound via the vagina or by laparoscopy. Then the embryologist selects the best three eggs and replaces them together with the sperms into the tube by laparoscopy which requires general anaesthesia. GIFT requires no laboratory fertilization but requires the females partner to have a patent tube.
