At the time of ovulation, a fresh prepared semen sample is introduced by a fine catheter, gently through cervical opening up into the uterine cavity. This procedure is called IUI. It is indicated for couples with minor male factor subfertility with patent fallopian tubes and unexplained infertility. To maximize the treatment outcome, ovarian stimulation with either oral medication or injections given and follicles monitored to ensure the best timing for insemination. Usually not more than 3 follicles are generated to minimize the risks of multiple pregnancy. The chance of pregnancy is 10-15%. If the patient fails to conceive after four cycles of treatment, it is advisable to consider other modalities of treatment.
